Working Title: “Supply Chain Excellence Is Your New Strategic Growth Strategy"; the mantra for transforming traditional supply chains and manufacturing into Product Supply and Demand-driven Value Networks.

Presenter: Roddy Martin: General Manager and Vice President of Value Chain Strategies, AMR Research Boston

Leading manufacturers from all verticals are transforming the traditional silo functions of production, supply chain, sales and marketing into a process orientated value network focused on profitably meeting actual demand. While the definition and characteristics of demand and priorities vary by industry; the principles remain the same; sensing actual demand at the “Moment of Truth” and translating that actual demand into responsive agile product supply networks.  Leading global businesses are positioning this as the next growth strategy and leaders are two years into the transformation and seeing significant results.Information to enable ”outside – in” orientated processes and priorities starting with customers, users, and consumers and then translated into business processes and operations is foundational in this Operations Strategy and is driving new priorities in the IT Strategy and vendor landscape. Business change leadership, new approaches to IT applications and IT Strategy are critical components of this transformation and must be synchronized with a clear leadership vision to be successful. This session will look at The Top 25 Supply Chains assessed by AMR research and the industry in AMR Research’s “Top 25” initiative and together with our research into Operations and IT Strategies and best practices will provide you with practical, pragmatic, insightful and actionable insights into topics such as metrics, priorities, roadmaps, thought leadership, best practices, and potential pitfalls as you embark or continue on the multi year change program. Success is imperative for the business and will have profound implications on the growth of your company. But the reality is that the journey is a difficult one. Roddy leads the team at AMR Research that researches this strategy across all manufacturing verticals at AMR Research in Boston.

Pick/Pack/Ship is part of the fulfillment process of any supply chain.  Businesses are always looking for new ways to streamline this process, as it can help to not only speed up their supply chain, but reduce environmental impact and save on expenses.  After Wal-Mart established a 5% packaging reduction target for its suppliers in late 2006, optimization has become a major focus.  The publicly announced savings targets are $3.5 billion to Wal-Mart, and double that to its suppliers along with environmental benefit due to less waste and improved fuel efficiency.  This presentation will focus on the packaging optimization process and outline some case studies.

Working Title: “Lean Supply Chains: A Status Report.”

Presenter: Robert J. Bowman, Senior Editor of Global Logistics & Supply Chain magazine

Traditional lean manufacturing models have worked in times when the market was not a constraint, with less product proliferation, and plenty of fat to be cut from the system.  Modern day trends are changing the trading landscape, and companies need to adapt to remain competitive.  This session will look at the current thinking in Lean techniques, how they meet the challenges of modern-day supply chains, and how they are evolving beyond considerations of cost-cutting and efficiency to embrace innovation and business growth.

Working Title: "'Road to Zero Landfill" - Not as Far Fetched as it May Seem.

Presenter: Myles Cohen - Division Vice - President and Global General Manager of Sonoco Recycling

A "step change" is occurring to accelerate the reduction of commercial landfill waste by redefining the best practices in recycling and sustainable operations. Hundreds of million of tons of potentially recyclable materials are still going to landfills as waste. Through innovation, technology, and materials management, new methods have been developed to reuse or recycle materials that have historically had no value. Beyond the benefits of landfill cost avoidance and a lessened environmental impact, many of these former waste streams are being converted to revenue streams by finding alternative uses for these materials. Learn that a journey to "zero waste" is realistic, resulting in cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and environmental social benefits.. Mr. Cohen leads an organization of sustainability consultants that work with some of the world's largest manufacturers to help them convert their waste streams to a newly created profit center.
